Right now, I'm planning some small home projects I can finish over winter break. You know, the ones that have low(ish) effort but major impact?
I'm planning a fireplace project, some little bathroom updates, and possibly a painted door.
As a single mom, sometimes home projects can feel intimidating (that poor kitchen remodel has been on hold for a while now...) but looking at smaller projects gives me some inspiration!
Today, I want to share one of my all time favorites - a Black Painted Piano - and maybe it will give you some ideas too.
Also, keep reading to the end and check out a Redfin article where I shared some home styling tips for entertaining!
BEFORE:

Ok, let's get this out of the way because I got a lot of heat for this project. The piano was lovely and I generally love wood furniture.
That said, this piano was a free find on Craiglist, it had some wear & tear, and I struggled with the red tones. It just didn't feel like part of our home.
And here's the deal, in these parts, I try to lead with authenticity. I think your home should bring you peace and feel like an extension of yourself.
And so, I painted it.
Black.
AFTER
โ
It took hours and hours and tons of milk paint but in the end, I was in love. ๐ค
Fresh, velvety, and high contrast.
The lesson I learned here is that it's ok to take big risks to make a space you love.
This makeover included one of my favorites, Black Milk Paint. Click above to read about how to use this paint along with my process, and a few more pics!
