5 Home Styling Tips Almost Every Space Could Use

Making Spaces

Hello Reader,

So last week I opened up some free one on one decor sessions to all of you - it was a jam packed day & I loved every second.

From living rooms and house paint to kitchens and decor, I really enjoyed seeing all the faces & spaces. While each space was unique, I definitely noticed some common themes & created my top 5 list of tips that will hopefully help you as well!

Top 5 Decor Tips:

  1. Rug Placement - Place area rugs under front feet of main furniture. This makes the space layered & grounded. Seriously, pause and do this now
  2. Add Height - Almost every space needs height, get those eyes moving up. My favorite ways: Tall floor lamp, Potted vertical house plant, floor length curtains, and light fixture or ceiling fan to get attention off ground
  3. Decor for Big Walls: itty bitty decor on big walls messes with our eyes, use large framed prints (matted frames can make print sizes even bigger) OR a shelf ledge to take a space with smaller art
  4. Proper Proportions: Choose furniture proportionate to space and other furniture. A good rule is the 2/3 guideline -look for art 2/3 the length of the item below it, coffee table 2/3 the length of the couch, mirror 2/3 the length of mantel, etc. - it makes our eyes happy!
  5. Maximize Home Features: Whatever makes your home special or different - celebrate that. Even if you think it's not trendy or what you see on Pinterest. Big old wood beams? Make em contrast with surrounding walls. Big stone fireplace, clean it up, reduce clutter and let it shine.

[ Didn't snag a ssession? No worries - I've created simple form you can submit your home decor questions. I'll either respond directly or here on the weekly email.

The sheer destruction and heartbreak is unimaginable - and it got me thinking more about home. In times like these, the meaning of home feels more profound. What is home? Home to me. Home to others. The numerous homes and places I've lived. Homes I've worked on. Homes I've remodeled. And then, your homes. The...
