The Hidden Reason Your Home Feels Cluttered

Hello Reader,

Every look around and think, why does it feel so cluttered in here - I don't even have that much stuff?!

I know I for sure have been there - from my bookshelves to bedroom and kitchen counters. It's not necessarily that everything has to go or that I no longer want them - but either way it's stressing me out.

You know the idea 'out order contributes to inner calm.'

Well, there's lots of reasons for this - and, good news, easy fixes!

Even if you do actually have tons of stuff, these tips will help too. I'm going to show you the #1 reaons, examples, and what to do!

#1 Reason Why Your Home Feels Cluttered:

Spaces might feel cluttered because items don't have clear "homes" or shelving lacks limits - but what I've found the number one reason a space feels messy is...drumroll....

TOO MANY SMALL ITEMS

Ok, so I used stock photos here to show what I mean. I don't know about you, but both areas seem, "fine" but just kind of scattered and cluttered - even though there's not a ton of things.

The problem is they are all just small and floating around.

SOLUTIONS

While it's not always intuitive, there are some easy solutions. I'll list them below and also show of my personal styling examples:

  • Use a variety of size items - don't be afraid to go large!
  • Group items - usually a group of three works best
  • Layer items - this is my favorite tip and might look like; add a book under a candle instead of next to it, or placing a vase slightly in front of mirror instead of to the side
living room with a tall bookshelf and decor with a cat on the window sill coffee table with decor
entryway with bench, hooks, and artwork desk area with shelf, artwork, and basket

By layering, grouping, and using a variety of sizes - we can still keep our favorite decor but make it feel more pulled together and less cluttered! Read the post below for even more tips ⬇️

Home Update

Last month I shared how my home sustained some major water damage & partly out of numbness and slow moving repairs...I haven't shared much.

However, the windows, floors, & siding are now being replaced and I'll be sharing more soon. I have no doubt, there will be some lessons & tips to pass along!

I hope this is decluttering tip is helpful! I'll be back next week with a final week of organizing tips!
