So we're talking corners today... wall corners. Kind of random, I know - but it's one of those tiny little design details that goes a long way.
Different styles of homes tend to have more or less quirky wall corners. My northwest contemporary? So many corners...and a few 45 degree angles for good measure.
Why do we care? Well, these play a big role in deciding where and what to paint. Also a big factor for trim work, tile, and moulding.
For example, painted accent walls love have natural end points at an inside corner. Sometimes this means we paint more than one wall.
Check out my handy visual & some quicks tips below. Plus, speaking of accent colors - I created a new paint color palette in the spirit of all the earthy, muted tones this year.
Wall Corners
Typically, it works best to start and end an accent wall at an inside corner (which means you might need to paint more than one wall to "end" at a corner)
Backsplash tile, moulding trim also like to end at inside corners
Board & batten can be customized around outside corners (be sure to space and measure)
45 degree corners are fun - but tricky to paint or work around. Many homes built in 2000s have these angled walls. For painted accent walls, consider painting next wall over to end at an inside corner.
Not shown here - rounded corners, all the rage of open concept layout (current article I'm working on). To me, a rounded corner just means that is all the same wall, treat accordingly :)
NEW: Earthy Neutrals Paint Colors:
Earthy neutrals are the cozy, grounded colors that make a space feel calm and lived-in. Think warm taupes, soft clays, and muted greens—all easy to mix and labeled with paint name & where to use.
Includes paint names, uses, and a whole-home color plan with zero guesswork.
My goal in home design is not about buying a bunch of stuff... no one needs that. I try to be really focused on what is needed & intentional for a space. Because, of that, I thought I'd start sharing some of my tried & true brands.
The Polished Jar
Over the years, I got to know Suzanne and have enjoyed watching her soap and bottle dispenser business grow. I use her Amber Bottle Sets in our bathrooms & kitchen. They're also my go-to for new home gifts.
Hope this week's newsletter is helpful in creating your home.
Also, a big thank you to everyone who has signed up for my virtual design services - I'm honored to be a part of your space! Working on them now and a few spots still open for this month - see link below to grab your spot.
