Recently, I began choosing some paint colors for my home exterior (dark charcoal for the win!) and I'm using a company, Miller Paint, that I'm not super familiar with. And after looking at new-to-me colors and visiting the store - it was like I was starting all over again!
I had to circle back and remember all the lessons learned and all the basics before getting carried away with all the options. (When I look at Sherwin Williams, it's like surgical precision) I know that paint can look verrrry different when it's up on that wall...
So, I figured going over all this might help others too. I created a video and post about 3 things you must consider when choosing paint - because these will affect how it looks on your house!
I'll go over those below but I'm also excited to share that I updated my Stress Free Paint Guide as well (it's been all about paint here...) - sharing it here for 50% off this week. If paint plans are in your future - you'll want to grab it!
3 Things To Consider When Choosing Paint:
Color Matching: It doesn't always work out well. Companies use special pigments & bases - making it hard to get an exact match. And sometimes close enough is ok, and other times, it's a disaster.
Undertones: Every paint is a mix of different colors (red, green, blue) and some colors have strong undertones. Which is why some whites look creamy up on your wall! TIP: Lay a color chip on white printer painter to see the undertones more clearly...
Lighting: Both indoor and natural light play a big role in how a paint looks on your wall. North facing rooms will bring out any cool undertones - making it look more stark or muddy.
